FOSIS stands for the Federation of Student Islamic Societies, a body that caters for the needs of Muslim students in further and higher education across the UK and Ireland. Established in 1962, the federation seeks to uphold the Quranic verse where Allah tells us to "hold fast to the rope of Allah, all of you together, and be not disunited" (Quran 3:103). At the heart of our vision, we have two central aims: 1) To represent Muslim students 2) To serve students representation : FOSIS plays an important role on the student youth front, as it is one of the largest, if not the largest representative organisation of Muslim youth in the UK. FOSIS is affiliated to the Muslim Council of Britain (MCB), the umbrella organisation for the majority of Muslim organisations in the UK. It is estimated that within the UK and Ireland there are over 90,000 Muslim students. Over the years, the hard work of these students within the different Islamic Societies has not only advanced the religion of Allah, but has proved to be a life changing experience for many Muslims and non-Muslim alike. FOSIS seeks to bring these students together, to share experiences and to offer help and advice where appropriate, uniting Muslim students to positively contribute to both Muslim and non-Muslim communities alike. This aim is achieved through the work of the following three committees: 1. Islamic Societies committee: brings Islamic Societies together and represents their views. 2. Student Affairs committee: represents Muslim students in the NUS, Students' Unions & on a governmental level. 3. Media team: represents the views of Muslim students to the media. Serving: As well as uniting and representing Muslim students, FOSIS also strives to serve students. We do this through the various branches of FOSIS, which are nine in total, outlined as follows: 1. Islam Awareness committee: improves the image of Islam on campuses.read more.http://www.fosis.org.uk/committees/iac/index.htm 2. I guess it's the equivalent of an MSA (muslim student association) in north America which basically organise events in eid, ramadan, Friday prayers, talks about islam...
