I blame foreign Asians for the speculation in real estate. Canada should ban foreign non resident investors from buying real estate.
The only reason Montreal is not hit by the same problem as other cities is that Montreal is a mainly francophone, so those wealthy Asians would need to learn French besides having money to live in the city.

Don't forget Quebeckers' mentality as well, I know a bunch of companies that invest everywhere in Canada but Quebec simply because it's too tough to do business there (same if you don't give bribes in Morocco) lolz.

Regarding the real estate issue don't blame Chinese & HK non-residents only but you seem totally ignoring what Iranians are doing over here: families immigrate here, very shortly after arrival they buy state of the art houses in fancy West Vancouver and then daddy goes back to Iran to do business there and goes back and forth till they get the citizenship.
At that time parents are free to move and they spend half of the time in Canada and the other half in Iran, children are usually good at school and get easily into UBC (Persians are the 3rd largest student association!!).

This is even worse for us moroccans who can't bring big money with us since l'office des changes forbids it.

btw, hors sujet, if someone knows how to move a big amount of money out of morocco I would be glad to hear it. even if I decide to go back there I would like my assets to be out of the country and free to move wherever I need them!

Au sujet de sortie d'argent il y a des moyens plus au moins complexes. Un astuce que j'ai entendu parle est qu'il y a des marocains qui ramènent leur argent a sebta ou melilla pour ouvrir un compte bancaire avec une banque hispanique puis faire un transfert swift ou ils veulent.
Il y en a qui ramassent le max de billets de 500 euros pour faire sortir de l'argent plus facilement.

Oui c'est facile, lorsque je vivais a Nador j'avais plein d'amis qui possedaient des cartes bancaires de la Caixa ou BBVA, on pouvais ouvrir un compte a 50 euros a l'epoque. Et bien sur les grandes tetes les utilisent pour faire les retraits une fois en peninsule.
