| fisrt at all u have to understand the role and that of the interviewer .as an interviewee u have 2 obligations - sell your qualifications - to evaluate the position and leave the interver with a solid understanding of the job's requirements . before the interviw select 3or 5 accomplishments or skills that u consider to be major selling points after selecting this points figure out also some situations where u have demonstrated initiative, overcame challenges and streamlined a process talk about your communication skills, teamwork skills, honesty and self confidence .If possible and whenever integrate this qualities in your responses build a peronnal credibility : your appearance ,demeanor, posture and attitude One big point and very important : check the interviewer and adapt yourself to his way and responses .Leave him with this message : " I am a personn that can sit near you and one day be a friend of you and the company " .WIthout to be obsesquious turn the interview to a discussion by asking questions throughout the interview .it will underline your sincerity and show your commitments to your profesion and the industry be ready to answer to thos questions : 1 ; tell me about yourself 2 where do you see yoursefl in five years 3 what is your achievment 4 give qualities and weknesses good luck |

| Sorry if stating the obvious but just in case something was missed ... One crutial thing you have to bear in mind, is that your first interviews are about learning to conduct an interview. So if you screw up in the first and second, then you should not be disheartened. Good luck and let us know how you did. ______________________________ ______________________________ __ Interviews Preparation • Be positive, visualise a favourable outcome. • Research the company beforehand - what they make, turnover, number of staff, branches, equipment used, anything that shows that you are interested in them having taken the time to find all this out. • Have available some non-contentious questions. • Know your own work history thoroughly, especially the skills, experience and achievements which are particularly relevant. • Know about your recruitment consultant, agency or other staff involved. • For technical roles expect to answer technical questions or to take a technical test. Never try to bluff your way through these. Interviews are about matching your skills to the requirement The interviewer really does want to find the right person for the job. Put yourself in their shoes, would you really enjoy wading through masses of applications and interviews? They want to establish:- • Can you do the job? • Do you fit in? • Will you complement / disrupt the department? • Is the money right? The Interview - Tactics • Your aim is to be offered the job, or if there will be more than one round, your limited objective is to get to the next round. • With one interview first impressions count most. • Find out vvho you will be meeting, what their position is and what they will be looking for i.e. Personnel will have a different perspective than the IT Director. • Plan how best you can present yourself. Be co-operative - help them understand your strengths. • Remember all interviews are important. 'Rubber Stamp' final interviews even more so- your application could be vetoed. • Be on time - give yourself plenty of time to get there. Carry the phone number just in case you are delayed. • Do not go into the building until a maximum of 10 minutes and a minimum of 5 minutes before time. • Check your appearance. • Know how long the interview is likely to last. Look around - get a sense of the place, atmosphere, people, visual effect. • Be polite and friendly to receptionists / secretaries - they may be later asked to give an opinion. Greet the interviewer with a friendly smile and a good firm handshake. Find out their name and use it. Sit down only when invited to do so - smile when appropriate and make eye contact. | During the interview • Listen to the question, pause to collect your thoughts and make sure you answer the question which is asked. • Keep your answers crisp and to the point -don't waffle, making sure that you are getting across the information the interviewer is looking for. • Make sure you show you have done your homework. • Match your skills to their requirements. • Be aware - mentally filing away information for later. • Check are you doing yourself justice? • Do not volunteer - stick to the question asked. • Do not criticise your former / current employer. Watch for jargon - which might have been common in your last firm and means nothing here. Money As a general rule, it is best to leave salary negotiation to your recruitment consultant. However, you may be asked what salary you are looking for. If this occurs early in the interview you can simply state 'I'd like to discuss this later when I have more of an idea of what is required in the role'. If asked at the end of an interview; • Ask what the salary range for the job is. • Never give a specific figure. • You can indicate what your current / last salary and benefit package is / was. • Contract rate negotiation should always be via your Consultant. Closing the interview Thank them - say you have enjoyed the meeting, that you are interested in the job Do's & Don'ts DO DON'T Be aware Be pompous Listen Be verbose Keep it relevant Stray from subject Keep it crisp Volunteer Be positive Be negative Questions to ask: • Why has the position become available? • What is the culture like? • What is the future for the team/project? • What benefits do they offer? • Confirm hours • What is the scope for development? • Level of staff turnover? |
