 So what are your plans for Eid?
Well Eid is fast approaching, Allah dekhlou 3lina ou 3likoum bi elkheir, sa7a oulhenna ainshallah. But what are your plans? How do you intend to spend the day(s) ainshallah? Will you be sacrificing a lamb or sending money back home for it or both? For the guys, do you still dthbeh and slekh el7ouli yourself? Guys and gals - what chhiwat will you be making for Eid? What will you wear for the occasion? Will you be going back to Maroc for Eid? For those not going to Maroc for Eid, what do you miss about having Eid in Maroc? What makes Eid so special for you?  |

for eid, my family makes/buys a ton of food to give to the poor, since the actual sacrificing a lamb part is impossible here. we go to eid prayers and visit with everyone at the mosque for awhile. all my family will be in our best jellabas of course! usually we invite friends and neighbors, muslims and non muslims alike, to our house for dinner. we usually make some moroccan dishes and some american ones as well. but i'm not sure if we'll be doing this this year since it's new year's eve and most people will have other plans. what do i miss about eid in morocco? i was born here and have only spent eid in morocco two times when i was pretty young, so i don't really have many clear memories. according to my parents it's a completely different atmosphere but it's hard for me to miss something i've never actually lived. it's special because it brings together our muslim community an d encourages good deeds. and of course we're reminded of abraham's (peace be upon him) noble (near) sacrifice for allah... let this be a reminder for all of us to always remember allah and hold him above all else in our lives inshallah. may everyone have a blessed eid! |
