| Hi, I'm planning on taking regular solo trips to Morocco beginning soon and I had some concerns about the fact that I do not have, and have never had, a national id card. I travel on a US passport; and even though I've never lived in Morocco (I was brought to the United States at the age of 2 months; I'm in my mid 20s now), my place of birth is on the passport itself. The one and only time tried to LEAVE Morocco without my parents, I was asked for the card and sent to a small "police" room near the final checkpoint where I saw some poor bastards sitting along a wall. If I had not immediately made a little scene and threatened (in my "beautiful" Arabic) to call for help, I think I would still be there now. Can I really face major problems travelling on a US Passport if I don't have this card? Is it possible for me to travel normally, according to the law, without being hassled? I haven't been to Morocco in four years partly because of this problem. I feel like a small kid having to rely on daddy and mommy just to visit. It's ridiculous. I would appreciate any advice or suggestions. Thanks! |

I went to Morocco without moroccan ID card and crossed moroccan borders few times during my trip. on one occasion the guy wanted to give me a hard time eventhough I tried to explain to him and I told him off. I said to him that I will quote him on "everything" that he says and I am reporting this to the embassy. The guy didn't say anything further and just let me pass without questions. I have also went to a station later on and inquired. One of the directors there confirmed that I am allowed to enter morocco with a canadian passport and without moroccan ID card. He said the main reason for them to use this is to distinguish moroccans form algerians for instance (note that not anyone who was born in morocco is moroccan unless his parents - one recently it's just one of them - are). To give you an easy answer, here is what I used to do after, I just tell them I don't have it but I was born in morocco and my parents as well. They normally just smile and say no problem have a good trip. Maybe this is only recently because of the new procedures for them to treat moroccans who live abroad in a nice manner and respect them. Hope this helps. Dernière modification par crazylover ; 02/02/2007 à 16h46. |
