live your present, think about your future learn to forgive and move on with your life , this caricature was shameful for us, I was scandalised to see 50 innocent life dying because of it, people looting and robbing compagnies and shops in pakistan" , fire and anger was inappropriate reaction. swiss flag burnt instead of danich.people are not even realising what is all this about, and forgeting the basic moment" non-muslims have the right to blasphemeas as it sweets them". a lot of things to ring the bell about " education is our misery not the carricatures" from now on if europe wants muslims killed they just have to publish such things , and watch how our fellows will create a self destroying anarchy ..bravo |

But unfortunately, context matters. Denmark does have a huge integration problem with their muslim immigrants: they elected a very radical coalition with an extreme right-wing party at the time, and were extremely hostile towards muslims in general (and not only towards the radical freaks among them). In this context, those cartoons can also be seen as demonization of all muslims in that country. The first time I saw them, I immediately remembered the hideous anti-semitic cartoons in "Der Stuermer", the mainstream nazi paper of 1933-1939 and beyond in nazi-Germany. Both "Der Stuermer" and "Jyllen Posten" cartoons were designed to stir up racial / religious hatred and to dehumanize a part of the local population. They were in no way innocent, as many people tend to sell them now. That's what frightened many Arab states, whose ambassadors sought an audience with prime minister Rasmussen to talk about it... and the icing on the cake was, that Rasmussen even refused to talk to them at all. Imagine the incredible arrogance of it! Of course, all those mindless riotings that caused so many deaths just confirmed the worst fears of the Danish and other people w.r.t. muslims (however unjustified, as we know). Yet, I still think that it was a very bad move of the Rasmussen government to allow those hate-mongering cartoons to stay, without launching an integration campaign at the same time to counteract their poison. Personally, I didn't buy any danish product since then, and I will refrain from doing so, until Rasmussen steps down or is finally voted out of office. It's just me, and my personal choice doesn't matter at all, but, sorry, I can't support this kind of behavior of the danish people towards a minority in their own country: it would be deeply unethical. |
